[May. 21st, 2009|12:49 pm] |

finally got around to uploading a bunch of photos i took over february, march and april this year. includes the americans' (greg and charles) visit to bon scott's grave, mine and rohan's easter expedition to albany and a bunch of random photos from the day to day.
flickr was actually being a bit shit and uploading the photos in any old order today so if you want to see the photos in some sort of coherent order, view them by clicking on the sets on the right hand column (the sets being "04 feb / mar 09" and "05 apr 09". also, the feb/mar set were hurriedly scanned off the actual prints so look a bit shit when you try and view them bigger.

| LIFE UPDATE |
[Apr. 21st, 2009|10:06 pm] |
|
i have been working as a barista for the last two and a bit months. i just started at a new place last week after the old one began to do my head in. i fucking love making coffee. i am never on here anymore. i'm now also working one day a week for void wetsuits. i'm trying to go to america for a month this year, probably october. i've never been before. i'm confused as shit about what to do with my life and have meltdowns about it on a weekly, if not daily basis! clever species are playing hardcore 2009 in july as well as a show in melbourne on the thursday leading up to it. our album comes out one month from now, almost to the day. i am working on a couple of other musical projects with roman harrison and timothy loughman, respectively. my girlfriend is the best. i have taken a couple of rolls worth of photos, will hopefully upload this week. i don't know what else... will include in next life update 6 months from now if i missed something. |

| Holga: Perth, December |
[Feb. 5th, 2009|12:43 pm] |
lazy, dusty, rushed scans of the prints from the last roll of photos i took with my holga. i used the 6 x 4.5 adaptor for the first time so you get 16 rectangular shots out of a roll rather than 12 square. i think i like the squares better but it's still not a bad way of shooting, especially if you're looking to save.

| i went to sydney last week... |
[Feb. 2nd, 2009|11:57 am] |
it was real. i was super busy trying to catch up with a bunch of people/see places and things i wanted to see so kind of neglected my family a bit and was very exhausted by the end of it but all in all a good time.
i: straight off the plane, got $2.50 big ass serve of chips and a tabouleh salad from my old local efnic owned take away shop in toongabbie.
got jumped the fuck on by my dad's crazy ass half husky, half kelpie pooch. seriously had to change clothes every time i went into the backyard.
discovered the courthouse beer garden and nearby good-for-drinking-in park in newtown.
had a hell of a time walking from the townie to central for my night bus back to the 'burbs, trying to take a short cut through what i later was told is a heinously dangerous part of sydney. mostly i was just confused though, especially when i discovered i was walking through a strange amphitheatre in a different part of the unsw. i thought i'd discovered the 09 version of the black lodge, especially when i saw a building that said "school of aeronautical engineering" (agent briggs?). i ended up cutting about 1-2 minutes off my walk for my troubles, massive. then boarded my night bus and sat down to 45 minutes of hell as i realised that while taking a short break from walking while i was in the uni, i had sat on and shattered the screen of my mp3 player, as well as not drank any water for some time so i went from being drunk on the bus to being hungover with a splitting headache and the bus was further held up by a huge group of lebanese and islander dudes punching on in the street at parramatta blocking traffic until police showed up and the bus could proceed. so in summary, i left the pub at 2am and arrived back at my dad's place at 4:30. mad journey!
should also mention i drank every day i was there to varying degrees! cleaning up my act now though.
MISSED a secret eddy current show followed by beach party with generator that raged until 4:30am. was bummed when i found out about that one!
splashed out money on records, but not that much. current fav, new mind eraser 7".
cruised the city, i love the place.
cruised paddington, also love place.
saw jay reatard semi-unplugged in-store, was cool!
skated the bra bowl with rick and pat then saw rick's AMAZING apartment.
saw jay reatard (great) and no age (bad!) play with the disbelievers (great) and naked on the vague (didn't see enough of set to give review)
saw shitloads of my mates and met some new ones: amanda, matt and co, tezbollah, jon, alicia and house, carlan, chris and co, binsah, john dad, dan sard, tentpeg, billy, patrick of sydney, rick - mad brodowns.
i got a roll's worth photos printed, hopefully can scan and post soon. |

| top 10 releases of '08 |
[Jan. 7th, 2009|03:06 pm] |
now that we're a week into the new year and people give even less of a shit about my opinions on things that happened last year, here's my top 10 releases for the year that was, in alphabetical order.
Annihilation Time - III: Tales of the Ancient Agewailing guitars, sick riffs. Brutal Knights - Living By Yourselffast trashy punk with such literary gems as "living by yourself, it's good to have a home; shitting with door open, staring at the phone". Clockcleaner - Babylon Rulesi like this more for the catchiness than anything else. good songs. Eddy Current Suppression Ring - Primary Coloursyou just don't know how much i love this band. so real. Fucked Up - The Chemistry of Common Lifefeaturing really catchy songs and interesting ideas as opposed to the boring, wanky ones that made up the last releases of their's i picked up that had me almost veto the band forever. but this is great! Invasión - La Cazapretty much unknown to most people i know, this is fucking intense spanish hardcore with some really creative production. it floored me the first time i listened to it. Jay Reatard - Matador Singles 08hey dizzle dizzle, i like jay rizzle, big surprizzle. actually i think this has lots of filler but the killer is just that good that it has to make the list. i was tempted just to list the 'trapped here b/w DOA and hiding hole' single but remembered such ragers as 'see-saw', 'screaming hand' and 'you mean nothing to me'. Meatlocker - S/T"i reeeally like this. you hate it? i hate it too." Vivian Girls - S/Tdreamy. White Male Dumbinance - Forced Vengeance 7"is brutal. is cock diesel.
close: Blank Dogs - On Two Sides LP My Disco - Paradise Ooga Boogas - Romance and Adventure LP UV Race - S/T 7" The Shitty Limits - Straight Forward b/w Messin' with the Kid 7" |

| year in review / shows of 2008 |
[Dec. 31st, 2008|04:34 pm] |
this year i drank more than ever and learned that i have to keep myself fairly busy to stop myself feeling like shit. mad revelations.
so since i wrote - "i know it's 6 months into 2008 already but i want to keep a record of the best shows of the year. so i'll keep adding to this and then post it at the end of the year. it will be a sweet retrospective." - i have made one more entry.
"so here we go, shows of the year 2008"
extortion at the arcliffe, sydney in january. this was the only time i saw extortion on their whole tour which is funny because the tour is the whole reason i went over haha. their first show coincided with some family stuff i had going on so i didn't go, this was their second show, their third show happened while i was sleeping off a party-all-night-in-sydney-then-get-straight-on-a-plane-to-melbourne night and their fourth (also jaws' last ever) at the arthouse was when i had my nose broken in the mindsnare set before they played so i didn't get to watch them.
however, from what i hear, this arcliffe one was the best. extortion played brutally, i was rowdy, will oeslnick was rowdy, the punx in the wheelchair was rowdy, he later called will and i dickhead and arsehole (respectively) for not catching him when he wheeled himself off stage and then i went out and partied until it was time to catch my flight to melbourne at 6am or something. ruling night.
jay reatard at the evelyn, melbourne in march last show on the dirtbombs/jay reatard tours and it was only announced last minute that jay was playing it. i thought it would be kinda lame because they just played the tote and then headed up to the evelyn to play again almost straight away. however, there was a pretty big crowd there, people were loose, jay reatard played "i know a place" and i made a friend after stagediving and making her nose bleed. tuff. then we all danced the night away to the dirtbombs and i took this photo.
eddy current suppression ring at amplifier, perth in june not only do i think this band rules but they also rule harder live and the first and last time i'd seen them was on the weekend a few days before i went overseas last year. that was an emotional weekend and i listened to them heaps while i was away. so i guess i really see them as a very personal band for me. seeing them again for the first time in so long brought back so many memories and with a couple of beers in me i had a smile on my dial for the whole set. people weren't too subdued either which was cool. seriously, you will not find a more genuine band than this.
UV race at the tote, melboure in november this was an afternoon show on one of the 5 days i spent in melbourne with freya. we had a holiday booked for that weekend because she had applied to study at RMIT and had she gotten an interview they would've been that weekend. un/fortunately she didn't land an interview so we got fucked up a lot. saturday started with getting up around midday, slowly getting lunch etc and then running into rhys and funks who were going for a drink so there you go, awake for 2 hours max and drinking again.
the show was continuing in this spirit and good vibes were aplenty so aside from the band which i will actually begin to describe in a second, the afternoon was just killer with a free bbq, bros and hoes i hadn't seen in ages, funks ranting about "yardbirds" as he ate free bbq chicken and a deece jukebox. super wild horses also played and were good but aren't going to make this livejournal user's top sets of the year list.
UV race. they play garage punk. i've seen them before (on the jay reatard tour, see above) and they were cool and their 7" is catchy. 8 months later though i think they were mindblowing. the new songs they were playing, which they'd just recorded the night before, (evidently putting them 'in the zone'), were fucked up. fucked up in the cool way i mean. each of the six members is so different to the next and they all seem to bring something different to the whole. like a team of superheroes or something. anyway, they killed with this set and again, were just really 'in the zone'. you know when bands just fucking work? this was the one. watching them kick out those jams at floor level from a crammed corner of a pub made me realise i wasn't just watching eddy current's little brother. |

| attn: friends with a brain - help needed with real estate agent |
[Dec. 23rd, 2008|11:11 pm] |
anyone know how to make your real estate agent see common sense?
we are renewing our lease for 12 months in february. they want to increase the rent $30 and then increase it $20 again after that 6 months to $400.
when i moved in it was $300, then we got a new lease and they put it up to $350, they're saying they want to progressively move it up to $380 then $400.
but the market price of houses in perth is not increasing anymore! and we are not getting paid more! how do they justify this? and how can they make us agree to pay an extra $20 as of august next year when they have no way of knowing what the housing market will be like then? it's an old house, i really like it, but it's an old house and as such has things going on that might make you think it ain't really worth $400 a week.
so i want to know if any of y'all have ideas for how to diplomatically respond to this. i think it's a fucking joke.
AND PS! someone tried to break in today! while i was at work the would-be thief knocked on our front door for awhile before smashing the window and unlocking the front door. when dishevelled tim stepped out of his room and nudely confronted the intruder the 45 year old dressed in gloves and sunglasses responsed with "what are YOU doing here?" then turned around and walked out.
tim, my hero, saving my shit from ending up in cashies. |

| life |
[Nov. 27th, 2008|10:21 pm] |
so i was supposed to be finishing up at ebb (you know, the place i've worked at for the most part of the last 4 years and have constantly told of my plans for leaving) over the next week or two but i'm gonna stay on into january. there are pros and cons to this.
cons: incredibly stressed out 4 days a week with inevitable overtime
pros: source of income can stay out late over the crucial christmas/new years party period (my working days begin at 9:30) no have to find new short term employment can go on a holiday to sydney/melb at the end of january
the main reason is that i have job prospects in february so it seems dumb to bail on my current job when i don't have anything solid lined up til feb. plus i can squeeze a holiday in late jan while between jobs.

| someone do a good show |
[Nov. 11th, 2008|10:22 am] |
i feel like it's been forever since i've been to a really good show. can someone good PLEEEASE play soon?! no band from any genre that i've seen of late has been anywhere near mindblowing.
the last memorable set i would say i saw was SUFFER at the hydey in late september when people were punching on to infest cover and similar sounding originals. hmm maybe you should listen to them if you haven't already - http://www.myspace.com/sufferhc. oh wow and make sure you check out their number 8 friend, killer band that one LOL.
unrelated - everyone else seems to have had a rant about the US presidential election, here's mine: i think john mccain would've had a much better chance at winning if he'd changed his last name to mcclane.
